LANSING (WKZO) -- A bill that would declare a permanent open season on feral pigs in Michigan cleared the State House this week, and has already been introduced in the Senate.
State Representative Sharon Tyler says that the issue has been a concern among some legislators and others for a while now. She says she learned about it from a constituent with a wild pig problem. The farmer fears the feral pig could infect his herd.
The wild pigs are a problem now in many states, like Texas, where they damage property and carry disease. Tyler says that the legislation approved on Tuesday would permit anyone with a valid hunting license or concealed pistol permit to kill the animals on sight. A similar bill was introduced in the State Senate by Ron Jelinek. Tyler thinks the legislation has a good chance of being approved there, and being signed by the governor.
